I've learned Japanese for about 4-5 years and this one always did my head in. Kami can mean paper, god and hair. (there is another way of saying paper though, 形代 but it means other stuff as well. like sacred doll, different than hina and sacred other stuff. Don't get me wrong, there are easy (word used loosely) ways of distinguishing between its meanings such as the intonation of mi and ka in a higher pitch in god and paper and hair is said in a low voice. also hair is sometimes kaminoke and god is usually ended with the honorific; -sama. seriously, only my japanese friend, yui, could 100% accurately construct the sentence, "god has hair made out of paper." it goes something like kami-sama no kami no kami no kami no kami no kami. yeah, i get a little confused... XD |

Well is this a question or a statement designed to bring up discussion? Its not entirely clear in your post. Though if you wanted I could talk to one of my friends who could directly translate it for me and I'll post it here.

yeah kinda just wanted to know what people thought ;P When I was learning Japanese I always found it a bit confusing using the same or greatly similar words with entirely different meanings. like Kirai (essentially dislike, sometimes translated as ugly depending on context) and Kirei (beautiful) soz about the unclearness lol im new these forums ;P |
