I myself am not too deep into religion, but when a friend popped this question I could not help but ponder. Why really is the Devil evil? Sure, he has done a lot of terrible things thorough the history they say, but then again he is left with the s***task/job of being the one who punishes the...bad people. And when God only gets the good guys one have to wonder....isn't it all a little bit presumptive?

I do not think I have to inform you about any more than that. Everyone knows about God and the Devil.
So the question left to answer; Why is the Devil evil when he punishes the bad people?

My bible history is a bit rusty, but if I remember right, the devil was a fallen angel cast from Heaven by God. This leads to his being the anti to our belief in good aka Heaven and God. It's believed that the Devil is the one manipulating people into doing the bad deeds, thus making him eviler than before. His punishing of bad people isn't because they were bad, but because they were unable to go to heaven, thus forcing them to hell where he had the right to torture them, probably for his own amusement :O

But, as I said, I'm not well versed in the Bible. I'm an atheist and really go one stuff I've seen/remembered :<

God punishes people for their actions, not the devil. The devil is just some guy who wants to lead people astray, because he doesn't like humans and doesn't want to be lonely in Hell.

There is a misconception held about Satan and Hell. Hell isn't his little clubhouse or his domain where he runs the place. It's a punishment for him as well. He doesn't punish anyone nor is it his job to. The reason he's evil is because he introduced mankind to sin. As far as goals, he's trying to bring as many to Hell with him.

Why are we talking only about the Devil as in what written in the Bible? We should talk about all points of perception of Satan/devil.
