hmm i'm a gimp user and in gimp i would use colorize
in photoshop maybe turn the image to gray scale and then use multiple colors in a softlight/overlay/multiply layer mode...

or this -> Changing Color in Photoshop

how's this?
i'm not using c4d (i use blender) so i'm not following the tutorial just looking at the results and trying to do something similar
