You Give Love a Bad Name is much more accessible. As it's from Allen's POV, you get to see how crazy he is about Kanda long before he ever realizes it himself, which is really cute. There's also a pattern to Kanda's behaviour but it's too subtle for Allen to realize what's really going on. That story of sutlers' and black.k.kat's angsty but beautiful Seven Stages of A Change are my two favourite DGM fics. Both are very straightforward, but the latter is really long. (Probably not as long as the one I just finished though. lol...)
Yeah the language in PoP threw me a bit at first (Eternal Jewel City is much more difficult so steer clear of that one despite how short it is), but if you think about how Kanda, in that story, is kind of worshipping Allen from afar while fighting a losing battle against his feelings, all the more obscure stuff makes a little more sense. Then there are also subtle signs of Allen's interest in him from the very start. (Most notably what he does after bumping into Kanda in the hallway & how he reacts after Kanda takes his shirt off.) Sorry, if there were biblical references in there, I must've totally forgotten about them. There shouldn't be any in the others. In Sons, Kanda tells Allen to pray at one point (with a reference to rosary beads), but I think that's about it.
sutlers' fics aren't actual poems. I hate those kinds of attempts at fanfic. The language used is 'poetic,' as in beautiful, and carefully chosen to set the mood, but there aren't any verses at all. It's very much M-rated prose. Like I said, try PoP because it's a shorter one but my fave is easily You Give Love A Bad Name because although the premise is silly, she does great things with it and the Kanda-Allen love story in it is totally serious and really beautifully developed.
I'm not reading her Bleach fics for romance though she's among the best romance writers I've ever seen (& not just in fanfic). I was just deleting the alert mails about her Bleach fics for a while until I checked some descriptions out of curiosity and laughed out loud. She only does AU. The ones DGM ones are serious, super-angsty & realistic, but the Bleach ones are ridiculous and silly-- I couldn't read them for the pairings even if I wanted to. It's just the stories (and dialogue!) that are so nicely done I have to continue reading. Unlike her DGM stuff which makes you want to cry, her Bleach fics are hilarious to me. I don't recommend them to you tho. I just mentioned it to illustrate how much I like her writing.
