Like most of the Shinigami after the assassination of Ōmaeda, Squad 6 Lieutenant Abarai Renji kept his weapon in Shikai, to prevent any surprises.

Like his Captain Renji found himself trembling with rage whenever he had the time do think. He had lost one of his closest friends in the first wave of murders, Rukia Kuchiki. Which is why he rarely gave himself the time to think.

Chapter 5 - Whispers In The Dark

As Runne vanished back into the shadows, the Captains relaxed a little, releasing their Zanpakutou hilts.

"What are your orders Captain-Commander?" Squad 13 Captain Ukitake Jūshirō finally broke the silence.

The Captain-Commander had not moved a muscle during the preceding events, instead simply staring at where Runne had disintegrated. He did not even glance at who spoke now.

Squad 10 Captain Hitsugaya Toushiro vanished into thin air, moving so swiftly he was invisible to the naked eye.
