Seems like the 4th is getting all the love haha but I really liked the Third too.

I've read through this entire thread and notice a lot of misconceptions, such as the 1st Hokage being an idiot for trading the bijuu to other villages, or the 4th for sealing the Kyuubi in Naruto. These are, in my opinion and based on facts previously released, gross misconceptions. But rather than explain why, I'll just list the actions of each Hokage and base my vote off of that.

Senju Hashirama - co-founded the village along with Uchiha Madara, thus helping establish the "one village per nation" rule utilized til this day. Could control the bijuu, and was an extremely powerful and skilled ninja who not only survived countless battles, but fought and defeated Madara, who was also using the Kyuubi, and the only natural user of the mokuton techniques.

Senju Tobirama - survived countless battles as well, and established many of Konoha's infrastructures and programs (Academy, Chunin exams, etc.), he was also a powerful ninja capable of using high-level water jutsu without any nearby water sources, and trained the 3rd Hokage, Homura, and Koharu as well.

Sarutobi Hiruzen - the longest reigning Hokage, having served 2 separate terms, and was said to possess knowledge of every jutsu in Konoha. He trained the three ninjas that would later go on to earn the titles of Sannin, and was said to have an undefeated streak prior to his battle with Orochimaru. He was a pacifist who tried to resolve conflicts with reason rather than with force, and held a strong reputation both within and outside of Konoha.

Namikaze Minato - possibly the youngest Hokage ever elected (having not even been thirty years old), and was hailed as a genius of his generation. He created the Rasengan, the only known jutsu not to require hand seals, and the Flying Thunder God technique, earning him a reputation both within and outside of the village. His skills even earned him a "flee on sight" order from other villages, and he was one of the key players in ending the 3rd Ninja World War. Lastly, he displayed incredible skills in sealing techniques, utilizing a seal which gave Naruto an added degree of protection against future enemies.

Tsunade of the Senju - the only known relative of the 1st/2nd Hokages, and the only survivor of the Sannin. She is arguably one of the greatest medical ninja in the series, able to restore a near-crippled Rock Lee to full strength through a risky surgery operation, and could create an antidote for any poison that Chiyo, an expert poison specialist, could develop. She was responsible for helping implement the "one medic specialist per team", improving the odds of team survival. Her most powerful medical technique also enables her to survive critical injuries instantly.

Based on all of this, I would have to say that the 3rd Hokage is probably the best of the Hokages. Both his reputation and his experience are testaments to his efforts as Hokage.

Except that I don't do that unless it's a most hated or favorite character thread. So in a thread of those sorts I'd fall into the pot category since that's the point. I'd like you to find evidence of me doing otherwise but you can't(it doesn't exist).

Hey... not only is that an awesome thought, but it's also accurate. You should forward the idea to the writers, it would make an excellent filler epic.

the only noteworthy disciples still left alive are naruto tsunade & sasuke
(espescially since itachi just died a few eps ago)

but srsly, it would be great to see some anime filler showing Sandaime in his prime!!

I chose the fifth for the heck of it and she looks good. there are just too many unknows and variables to make a decision here.

i believe first third or fifth.

the second i dont get that. havent they just completely overlooked him in the series.

I think Tsunade is/was a pretty good Hokage too. True her reign was relatively short, but she came through for Konoha at a time when the Third's death had crippled them, and there was no one else left, save Danzo.
