Well bad guys are usually much cooler and interesting than the good guys. They usually have lived through some hard stuff and do radical acts to change things/the world. And good guys are usually too simple-thinking.

Yes thats true. This is because in OP you see the villains' greed, munipulation and taking advantage of weak people first hand(thats what pirates do). That's why everyone feels REALLY good when Luffy pwns the bad guy in the end. Instead of Bleach and Naruto where Ninja's and Shinigami's are jobs and villains have more sophisticated resolves about their targets in life.
