The first two parts of your statement (how zombie(s) created/soul acquired) have been answered in the series. The later portions haven't, but with everything else Kishi has going on right now (including a friggin war), it's not like explaining the specifics of one tech is gonna be of a whole lot of importance. At least not at this stage in the series.

Actually, considering how important this jutsu is now, I think the specifics matter quite a lot.
And how the soul is acquired hasn't been explained what I know. It seems you can just summon any soul you know of without even having ever met or seen the person in question.

If that's the case the specifics would've been important when Orochimaru first used it against the 3rd, but no one ever complained to my knowledge. Why would it be any different now? Aside from that, that's why Kishi released the first couple of Naruto databooks, to explain the mechanics behind some of the techs used, specifically this one. A simple google search will tell you what you need to know.

Also, keep in mind this is a summoning jutsu. Last I checked, you don't necessarily have to have met a summons before in order to perform that summons. Otherwise Naruto would never have been able to summon toads. I would think the same rules would apply for this one. Since this is technically a summoning jutsu, it shouldn't be all that different from other summoning techs.

You need a contract for summoning animals. This just grabs a soul of your liking without any such contact involved.
It wasn't that important back with Oro because Hiruzen had a jutsu that could effectively counter it.
No one has that any more, thus there has to be another way of defeating the zombies.

I hope not though, it would take the fun out of actually defeating the zombies by skill, so if Kishi does indeed overlook that to focus on the latter, I'd be happy enough.

To put it simply, without a way to defeat the zombies, everyone is screwed :/
Unless someone has a nuclear missile pointed at Kabuto's general location.

I was just wondering how everyone would be screwed and realized I'd forgotten about their regeneration >_<
