well the shukaku is gone (so it wont protect him unconsiencly) but i'm sure he could still use some sand jutsu since it's his speacialty

This is the case for me too. Taking out of him the 1-tailed beast means that the sand won't protect him unconsciously. Do you remember that it was mentioned that because of the beast the sand protects him. That was his "perfect" defense as well.
Also, try to recall after Gaara was saved from elder Chiyo, he was facing Naruto giving him his hand and for a minute Naruto hesitated. At that moment Gaara used the sand to lift Naruto's hand into his. So he can still control the sand but the sand doesn't protect him unconsciously.

No Gaara didn't lose his powers. Didn't you notice that after Naruto rescued Gaara and was about to retreat back to Konoha, what really happened? Gaara used his technique to lift Narutos hand for a handshake for goodness sake!
