Which Akatsuki member do you think is Overrated? (Possible spoilers)

A lot of Sasuke's movements in the fight were because of his Sharingan. Him using that sword tactic was because he could see the bombs in the ground, where as Deidara fought him with no such advantages. Saying he outsmarted Deidara due to his bloodline's ability is outrageous. The only way to know for sure whether or not he could outsmart Deidara is to have the two fight without the use of the Sharingan. But since he had the sharingan active the entire fight, it's mainly just speculation.

The sword tactic was not primarily the sharingan. The sharingan only told him where the bombs where. He still had theorized that his jutsu wouldn't detonate with lightning. He could have done the same thing with the sharingan deactivated and the only thing different would be him not confirming his theory. Sharingan didn't give Sasuke the idea to layer the attacks he did it himself.

You can't really confirm whether or not he would've been able to accomplish that with the Sharingan, especially since the whole reason why that plan worked in the first place was because he could see the bombs. If he had no idea where the bombs were, he wouldn't have likely been able to place his sword where it needed in order to pull it off. He simply would've been gambling then.

He had the theory. He also hit the mine on purpose. Without sharingan he would have either missed the mine, or hit the mine and shortened it out. Either way he would have been able to proceed with the rest of the attack. So the sharingan only confirmed the theory.

But that's still the point, the Sharingan was still necessary. He wasn't even sure his lightning release would work on the bombs, and wasn't completely certain until far later in the fight. Also, if he missed the mines, then he wouldn't have been able to short out the rest of them. Earth doesn't conduct electricity.

The sharingan was necessary later in the fight but not at that point. The point which Sasuke was outsmarting Deidara. The sharingan played a small role in that part(which had significance later in the fight but that's irrelevant to the point) and at that point in the battle he could have did the same thing without sharingan. Therefore, you since the sharingan didn't play a big part you can't cover Deidara getting outsmarted with it. He also didn't short out the rest of the mines. He had Deidara land on them.

And how exactly was the sharingan not necessary at that point? If it wasn't, he wouldn't have had any need to activate it until later on in the fight, especially seeing as the Sharingan does consume chakra. That says to me that it was clearly necessary, and therefore does count against the whole "Sasuke was smarter than Deidara" theory.

Because without it he would have either hit a mine and shortened it out or missed the mine. He would have been able to continue the attack regardless. He was confirming his theory with the sharingan. He didn't need his theory confirmed to continue his attack. Since we proved that he could have done the same without the sharingan it doesn't count. Sasuke was outsmarting Deidara not because he had sharingan but because he's smarter. Sharingan also doesn't use a lot of chakra for Uchiha.
