Yamato has the abilities of the 1st hokage, who was super strong, but from what we've seen he seems very weak. For example, when he faced Sasuke at the beginning of Shippuuden, he was seriously injured by the then strong Sasuke, but comparatively weaker than now Sasuke.
How strong is Yamato and does he have any significance other than keeping the Kyuubi at bay? <-- Which he isn't that good at.

I think he's somewhere on Asuma's level. But at least he's more useful than Suckura.

Yamato also told Naruto and Sakura that he was hopin to not injure sasuke in front of them, and that he needed to start gettin serious, thats when sasuke was about to use that technique which im guessing was Kirin and orochimaru came and stopped them then they disappeared, which means that Yamato was stronger than what he appeared at that time. http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/309/13/

Sasuke is just relentless, and Yamato is probably just full of himself. Don't say you're going to get serious, just get serious.

Yamato... Well... he is weaker than most of the other characters on the series, the only people who are weaker than him are Sakura,Ino,Kiba,Chouji,Konohamaru etc. also the "No Name Ninjas" are weaker than him
