I am not sure where or if this was in the manga, and not gonna go hunting it down, but this is what the anime showed Kakashi and his peers looking like at the time of the attack. They don't look like kids but they were told they were too young to fight.

@ Ora: Biggest fails Kishi has written? Ino is exactly like Sakura in the alter ego department. Their rivalry causes them to do anything from be snippy with each other to rage when in the same room. Sakura snapping out it had more to do with Sakura's unwillingness to go down that way to her rival which considering both of their low skill at the time isnt a cop out. You can blame the author for Sakura having no jutsu also. The writing also positioned her to always need to be saved when around the two dominant characters.

Blame the author for Ino being the only one to not improve over the skip also. Tenten is debatable but she can be useful as seen in support atks.

Saving Choji was good but for me it doesnt redeem all fails. Thats just my opinion. Getting emotional in regards to his sensei and him being hesistant to fight him is understandable. The pep talk was needed. Shikamaru could've done it as they're besties but Kishi wrote it that way. Nothing wrong with that.

Sakura thought she had the resolve to kill someone she loved and couldnt when face to face with him. She failed I wont say she didnt. The ability to kill is always easier in your head than in real life. Shes never killed before. Considering she knew Sasuke's skill level, to make the attempt was beyond stupid imo.

I guess it was another way to setup her being saved around these two, instead of Naruto just showing up while everyone's idly talking. Thats Kishi's writing again. Narutos getting scratched was from not having time to be even more careful while saving her. Still a fail but not as bad all things considered.

The byakugan's development stop is not an excuse for lack of all around improvement. The Hyuuga being restricted to just the byakugan for techs doesnt make sense. They have chakra, they can form seals. Do other stuff also.

As a person though I still say Sakura's the bigger fail but not as a kunoichi post skip.

Sorry bro, but while I respect your opinion (you've been right on numerous other topics before), I gotta disagree with you on the Sakura escaping Ino's jutsu part. For me, there are a couple of aspects that make it such a big fail, the first being that we've never seen anyone, escape the jutsu in that manner, either pre-time skip or post. Not a single person. And the tech has been used at least several times since. Yet because Sakura had some b**chy alter-ego, she was suddenly able to do it? Nope, not buying it. Total cop-out. Also is the fact that the Sakura's persona never had much of a strong (or dominant) presence, and now it doesn't even have one at all. Yet because she had an alter-ego she was able to break out of a tech that subdued a psuedo jinchuuriki? Come on dude.

While Choji's situation was understandable, it doesn't change the fact that Ino still saved him. Not only that, Ino was also key for them sealing Kinkakku when he went into biju mode. Sakura has yet to do anything in the war of that caliber. And I do hold her accountable for nearly killing Naruto with that kunai because it was hers, and Naruto wouldn't have had to save her if she had really had the resolve to do what she said she would. Once she made that decision, even going through the effort of knocking out her teammates, from that point she held all accountability for what happened after that. That was her fail and hers alone, and it was inexcusable frankly speaking.

Hinata and the rest of the Hyuga being shelved into obscurity because of Kishi's lack of attention with the Byakugan is not their fault. Look at it this way, Hinata has even displayed greater gentle fist techs, including the Air Palm Wall that only Neji could use before, and even the Twin Lion Fist tech that she used against Pein. The first we only got a single glimpse of, while the other was totally ignored by Kishi as it was deflected effortlessly by Pein's hax bansho tennin, and then it hasn't been since in any part of this war. Hinata has clearly developed much greater skills than her pre-time skip counterpart, and it's Kishi's fault that we're not seeing it first hand. That's not a cop-out, that's just fact.

@ Ora: If she was going against anyone besides Ino in the same situation I think she would have lost. The rivalry thing plus timely cheerleading from Naruto of course got her out of that. Thats just the way I saw it.

I acknowledged she saved him. I just dont agree it writes off all fails. That's not changing.

I acknowledged the kunai as a fail, never said it wasnt. Circumstantially it had zero impact and she didnt exactly trip over her own feet and scratch Naruto to do that so. For me its a fail, I just dont weigh it like you do.

In the war Sakura's a medic. Ino's not and has a complete team so she 's in the field while Sakura (likely the best medic outside of Tsunade) tends to the scores of wounded. Thats her role and all things considered its logical. Sai scout team, Yamato captured, Naruto was training on the turtle then later made his way to the fray, Kakashi was put in charge of I think CQC division. Where is the team shes supposed to join to do things in the field?

I dont know why youre stuck on Hinata though. Ive really only said that extending her already near 360 degree vision further isnt that great to me. Being further than Neji with that doesnt matter to me as it just makes it look as though her focus is more on the scouting aspect of things which is fine. I dont remember which offensive moves were anime only, if both were canon which Im sure the lion hands were then thats good for her. I know it was Pain but it still didnt do anything. Why are you so hardcore about her? No ones said that shes a fail at being a kunoichi which is what the discussions about.

The majority of the cast has been pigeonholed not just the byakugan. It doesnt make anything a cop out including the chunin exam fight. More so Kishi can be blamed for creating characters we're actually interested in and conceptually not having/ making time for their development as he's trying to move the story forward. Its simply the way he wrote it. When Kishi starts having Kubo tendencies I'll be right there calling him out too. Hopefully that never happens.

It's too late for him to be as bad as Kubo -- characters have had their time in the light, now it is time for main characters to get even more love.
