There is no reason to think that was fire. Sure the zombies were afraid of it but so what? That's just zombie myth. How many were taken out by it? The only weapon that actually worked was salt.

I guess people carrying umbrellas around is proof that water is a threat to them then.. Either that, or they would just prefer not to get wet.

well a really hot fire should be a threat to them since it could turn them into ashes. a normal fire should only be a threat to easy flammable ones like some of the surprise zombies

Ryuma was killed by fire but you're gonna deny that even though that was obviously why he stopped fighting. Also don't see why the color matters. Especially since the manga doesn't have it in color and thus it was an artistic decision from the anime staff. I don't even know why you think shadows can will themselves out of their bodies in the first place.

the samurai got fired up by a cut from zoro and the he gave up, kind like that, because he know the fire would burn him so he can't fight anymore^^
