True but like Death said, the flag theme has been that they have something to do with the captains...

Well Oda does love lesser known mythic/historic references so that could explain the flag

As for why he is able to have more than one ability, the flag doesnt really go with that since as far as we know he only has two abilities and his flag has three heads :/

Who knows he could have another fruit after all, but he made it seem like he didnt eat any other fruits cause he was waiting for the Yami yami, so it more likely taht it has something to do with the darkness ability. All of this is just my take on things, but you never know what to expect with Oda as the author :P

remember when luffy,zoro and nami first met BB,nami said the 'he' (BB) could have some informations about Sky Island,and luffy said its not 'he' its 'they' (same said zoro later).It was weird at that time because how could they (zoro and luffy) know that he has companions there in jaya (it would make sense if they figured out that BB has more bodys inside him,lol,maybe not that but something among those lines)

I'm taking this even further
the scar on shanks that he got from BB looks like a claw injury,so maybe BB ate a zoan DF before possibly a Cereberus zoan (because of the 3 heads on his flag) and scared shanks with it.
This goes even deeper.Because of the Cereberus zoan BB could still eat 2 DFs (because the cereberus has 3 heads which could allow him to eat 3 DFs.First head would be for the cereberus zoan normally,second and third had can allow him to eat 2 more DFs,later yami and gura).He had in mind 2 specific DFs,the yami-yami no mi (darkness) and the gura gura no mi (earthquake).Because the gura gura no mi was already taken he needed the yami yami no mi to extract WBs DF (lets asumme it has the ability to do that)

I've got 3 theories.

1: Luffy and Ace are (were) related by blood. Just not directly. Dragon and Roger were brothers, meaning that Ace and Luffy are cousins. This is supported by the D., as well as a somewhat speculative interpretation of Garps actions after Roger's execution. Why would a Marine like Garp take in Ace, or even listen to Roger, for that matter, unless it was somehow personal to him?

2: The DF are far more than we really understand. I have a strong suspicion that they are genetic manipulation of some sort, and the fruits are merely a delivery system. This would explain why taking a single bite is enough to transfer the power, and also shows how it might be possible to transfer a power from one person to another. Also, I have another strong suspicion that the fruits genetic manipulation effects are very general, rather than specific. I.E if one person ate the gomu gomu no mi, that person would have a different form of rubber powers than Luffy, because the fruit itself only grants the general ability of elasticity; Luffy personality is what gives him the rest. It would not surprise me if the fruits bear no ability other than to manifest one's personality as a tangible weapon.

3: The Gomu Gomu no Mi is a Logia. This is actually already prove if one looks at Gears Second and Third. It would be impossible (According to Lucci, at least) for his body to handle Second if all his blood vessels and organs were not made of rubber; even his bones are, otherwise Third wouldn't work either. And the definition of Logia is that one's body is made up of an element, and that one can use that element to attack. Rubber is also a naturally occurring element, being found in certain types of African trees. Ergo, Luffy's fruit is a Logia.

As to BB, I think it's more along the lines of the Darkness fruit sucks everything thing in, including DF abilities. He even says that his fruit makes him take double damage from attacks, because in draws in attacks. In this way, it's a lot more like a Black Hole fruit than a Darkness fruit. It can also absorb powers, such as when BB sucked ion Ace's Hiken. I think he manipulated the events of the war because he needed WB dead, because he can only take DF if that person is dead.

Also, following with my DF description above, Zoan types contain animal DNA, and combines it with the person who eats it. That's why the DF-weapons are possible, since all that's needed is to distill the DNA, perhaps into a liquid, and use that in the forging process. This also explains why certain fruits, like Inu Inu, have multiple forms, despite being the same; the person's personality changes the DNA, so a bloodthristy and sneaky Inu Inu user would be an Ookami, Wolf, and a noble one would be a Jackal (Jyabura and Chaka, respectively)

Humans are animals too, so the Hito Hito is possible, however I'm pretty if a human ate it, it would do nothing, other than make him unable to swim. Which would really and truly suck. Also, the Ancient and Mythic Zoans are also possible, if the DFs contain ALL animal DNA, whether extinct (which in some places, T-rex and other dinos are not. Little Garden, for example) or mythical.
