Pokemon: Rise of a Champion

Welcome to the OOC thread for the Pokemon RP. This page will get you started on making a sheet and getting started in the RP.

Getting Started

Below you will see you a character sheet. Once finished, post it here in this thread. When you create your sheet you start off with 50 BP, to "buy" Pokemon. Pokemon are "priced" below. Pokemon are tier ranked based on the rank of their final evolution. If you need to know what the tier of a pokemon is, link is here. Once you pick your Pokemon, you can have them be at level 30. All evolutions and attacks must match up to level 30. HOWEVER you may NOT pick a legendary Pokemon, even if it is not Uber Tier. If you are confused about if a Pokemon is considered legendary, feel free to ask, or go here.

The RP

General Information

Catching Pokemon
Pokemon will be separated into different routes in the Pokemon world. Each Pokemon will be given a rank, c for common, u for uncommon, r for rare. Depending on the rarity of the Pokemon, you need to use the minimum poke ball requirement. Other specific pokeballs can have effects that help catch specific pokemon.
Pokeball - Common Pokemon
Great ball - Uncommon Pokemon
Ultra Ball - Rare Pokemon

To catch a Pokemon, you need to battle it, and if you are battling in PO, you need to knock it out, then toss your Pokeball and hope you catch it. The stronger the Pokeball, the easier it is to catch. The other requirement is that you need another person to be an NPC wild pokemon. This person will determine if the Pokemon is caught or not.

Leveling
RP battles
win - 3 lvls x number of pokemon on opponents team /2
draw - 2 lvls x number of pokemon on opponents team /2
loss - 1 lvl x number of pokemon on opponents team /2

note the levels are split between the team, not each pokemon gets that many.

Pokemon Online battles
win - 2 levels x number of pokemon on opponents team. /2
draw - 1 level x number of pokemon on opponents team. /2
(note: these are rp battles simulated using PO to save time, you can't just spam battle to level, they have to make sense by rp standards)

if you come across half a level in a battle, save it, and it'll become a full level the next time you get a half

other methods of leveling
- Defeat a pokemon of a higher tier (+1 additional level)
- Defeat a pokemon more than 5 levels higher (+1 additional level)
-trade in 15 exp points for 1 level that can go to any pokemon on your team
-level rewards are doubled in gym battles.

Exp - Trainers get 5 exp points for every post they make of decent length (min lines: you're choice) Exp points can be converted into either levels or battle points, depends on the need of the trainer. This farther benefits the people who spend more time rping than those who take the quick and easy way and use PO, as well as benefiting general activity outside of battle.

Battling
All battles will be done either in the RP thread, which are written out, or battled through the Pokemon-Online Battle Simulator. Once the battle finishes BP is distributed based on the following.

Rp battles
- Win -> (Number of opponents Pokemon + Number of opponent's badges) x 15
- Tie -> (Number of opponents Pokemon + Number of opponent's badges) x 10
- Lose -> (Number of opponents Pokemon defeated + Number of opponents badges) x 5

Sim Battles
- Win -> (Number of opponents Pokemon + Number of opponent's badges) x 10
- Lose -> (Number of opponents Pokemon defeated + Number of opponent's badges) x 5

Evolving
All Pokemon evolve at there proper levels, if you need to know what level a Pokemon evolves at use one of these sources.

If a Pokemon needs a specific item to evolve, like a Water Stone or a King's Rock, those items will be in the shop, and are a one time use.

If a Pokemon requires happiness to evolve, you need to buy the Happy Stone and have a Pokemon level up 3 times with it.

If a Pokemon has another method of evolution, talk to a Gm about how to evolve it.

Pokemon-Online

What is Pokemon-Online?
Pokemon-Online is a game client that allows people to act out their Pokedreams and gather a team of 6 Pokemon of their choosing, have them all start at level 100, and allow them all to learn any move, have any ability, and have any item they want. It gives total freedom, and opens the door to competitive battling.

What is Competitive Battling?
The world of competitive battling in Pokemon is different than what the average Pokemon player is used to. Contrary to popular belief, extreme amount of strategy and skill is involved in becoming a good competitive battler. Also, strategies that one relied on in-game to defeat the Elite Four will not work as well in a competitive environment. For example, you may have a fully offensive team in the game all strapped with Hyper Beam which decimates everything, but in competitive environment, if you are faced with a wall, not only will Hyper Beam just scratch the wall, but the wall will counter you and hurt you badly. Moves that seemed useless in-game are exceptionally handy in a competitive environment as well, such as Taunt, Encore, Whirlwind, etc.

What is this thread for?
This thread is here so that all people who enjoy Pokemon Online, or PO, can discuss awesome strategies with each other, help with team-building, battle against each other, and occasionally even hold tournaments! There is also a small little Gym and Battle Frontier competition explained below.

This is where the Pokemon Online Game Client can be downloaded.

For Mac-Users such as myself, Pokemon Online has a build just for you as well.

How to Start?
Although you are free to make a team and battle each other, to compete in the gym leader challenges, you will be randomly given 3 Pokemon which you are free to make it it's final evolution, give it any move set, and item.

To get more Pokemon you need to use that team and complete one of the following. Whenever you complete one of the following, the pattern resets itself.

3 wins in a row
4 losses in a row
A combination of 5 wins and losses.

AC Gym Challenge
In this thread there will be a list of gym battles you can compete in. They are listed in order from the easiest to the hardest.

Rules for the Gym Challenge

• If you are interested in partaking in this challenge, the rules are as follows:
• A team of 10 Pokemon must be chosen, 6 starters and 4 box Pokemon. Once these Pokemon are chosen, you may not freely change the Pokemon in your team (moves, items, EV's, etc., may be freely changed whenever)
• If you would like to change a Pokemon in your team, you must discard 1 badge per 1 Pokemon that you wish to change. For example, if I wish to change 3 of my Pokemon, I would have to discard 3 badges. If I wish to change 4 of my Pokemon and I only own 3 badges, I would have to discard all of my badges and start from the beginning. People owning no badges may change their team as frequently as they wish.
• You may battle Gym Leaders once a day.
• After a battle with a Gym Leader, the Leader will randomize a number from 1 to 6, correlating to one of their own Pokemon, and that Pokemon will be presented as a gift to the trainer, whether they win or lose. However, should the trainer choose to take the Pokemon, they must first release a Pokemon from their box so that they do not exceed a total of 10 Pokemon.
• Your team may not consist of any Pokemon in the Uber tier. Everything must be in the OU tier or lower. Gym Leaders are NOT to present Pokemon in the Uber tier to the trainers. The Uber Pokemon are merely meant to make this challenge as difficult as possible.
