I think that the earl think that he doesnt deserve to deal with small fry...
... when time will come and the noah will fails (hope it happen at one point) the earl will considers that he have found a opponant worthy of him to fight with.. ... or the earl is just a lazy gramps that doesnt like to take the chance on being hurt for no valuable reasons =P
