Yep, earlier today I was catching up on Mirai Nikki, and I thought "this is just like Death Note... WHAT? No it's not!"

But it's not

Hollywood is all formula as well, it doesn't mean the formula doesn't work. I watch ecchi/harem comedies because they make me giggle, not for the brilliant plot twists.

Me too. But it's really clear to me she feels alone in the world, so sort of like how Inori's not getting criticised for more or less doing the same thing because Mana took over (which she apparently is capable of fighting off now), I pity Arisa's desperation. (Inori's situation is still more pitiable though.)

True. My rating would have been very negative if I didn't stick it out for a while. Longer than most other anime, actually. But now it's at about 7.5/10 for me.

Very true, but the formula should be a springboard, rather than a life preserver for the person writing the script. Or a way to touch base if you're feeling a little lost. But if you're witless about your craft and just writing the equivalent of paint-by-numbers, it's time to go back to the drawing board.
