Genres: Action, Mecha, Sci-Fi, Military

Description:
Spoiler
Since 1973, an invasion of aliens known as BETA upon Earth is driving human civilization into nearly collapse. Facing an enormous mass of enemy force, mankind has developed large humanoid arms called as Tactical Surface Fighters and deployed them to its defense lines through out the world. However, all those efforts could slow down defeats but could not stop BETA, and mankind is forced to abandon major area of the Eurasian Continent. For 30 years, mankind is bogged down in an endless war against BETA without any hopes of victory.

In 2001, the Imperial Japan faces difficulties in the development of a next-generation main Tactical Surface Fighters (TSF) as it defends the front lines of the Far East. The UN has proposed a joint development program between the Imperial Japan and the United States as a part of its international mutual development project of TSF, the Prominence Project.

Yui Takamura, a surface pilot of the Imperial Royal Guards of Japan, is given responsibility for the project and sets off to Alaska. Meanwhile, Yuya Bridges, also a surface pilot of the US Army, was heading to the same destination.

Yet they never knew that their encounter would change their destiny drastically.

This story with exciting human dramas and robot actions takes place in the development of a new Tactical Surface Fighters, the most important and effective weapons against BETA, at a crisis of human extinction.

Thought i should post some trailers that caught my attention. Graphics seem good with the use of CG. Hope they don't over do it in this series.

I'm skeptical on watching this because from my experience the plots and sub plots of mecha heavy anime and stories suck and or are too shallow. The plot described in this one sounds semi interesting to me though so I may try watching it and break my rule to avoid mecha anime.

Ok so how many mecha anime or manga stories in general have had this basic plot where aliens / creatures of unknown origin are threatening the extinction of mankind? Like the majority of them? Even though I knew it would be like that I was kind of hopping for a better twist on it.

Ahh this just goes to prove why I hate mecha stories. I may keep watching this though depending how they take it. So far the redeeming factors for me are that for one, the mecha aren't ridiculously tweaked out and overpowered and barely pull off a win with some hidden special power type of thing..... err yet... and two the characters are also fairly decent without overly exaggerated quirks (*cough* mega emo, or ecchi *cough*) that stand out too much.

Because only school girls look good in skin tight body suits that are designed to show off the T and A, I mean come on you have to ask?

Well i felt that this episode wasn't really that bad, basically it served its purpose of being a lead in/build up episode. They did quite a good job of introducing the characters though it felt a little rushed for me. Oh and at least there is a sense of seriousness in this series. I think this series has potential.

On a side note, they seem to cut down budget on the character and vehicle designs and pump in more budget into some scenery and mostly into the nicely done CG Mobile suits.

I liked the explanation intro part.
It helped a lot with the rest of the episode.
Watching Yui & her friends in everyday life was nice.
It was pretty cool how those mechas have giant katanas ^^
Invasion at their doorstep...how will they handle it?
Yui had some nice thoughts near the end of episode.
Will be probably watching this one for the mecha & aliens part.
