Default [Discussion] Fondant Garden (翻糖花園)

Title: Fondant Garden (翻糖花園)
Genre: Romance, comedy
Total episodes: 16
Broadcast network: CTV
Cast:
Jin Man Shu
Park Jung Min
Kingone Wang
Lia Lee
Johnny Lu
Angie Tang

Synopsis:
Park Jung Min plays Po Xi Huan, a Taiwanese-Korean second-generation chaebol from a Korean company who does not wish to inherit his family business. Kingone Wang is his Taiwanese cousin, Yen Han Xiang, who would gladly take over the company, and who runs the family business division in Taiwan. Han Xiang is a little annoyed that younger cousin is uninterested in taking over the business yet might inherit over him. Xi Huan meets Mi En, a talented pastry chef who has caught the eye of Han Xiang, and gradually falls in love with her. Lia Lee is Chen Ai Lin, the daughter of the owner of a pastry conglomerate in Taiwan and also Mi En’s college best friend, who is in love with Han Xiang.

Comment:
Typical triangle love story involving chaebol families with a woman from an average background caught in the middle. Another collaboration between korean and taiwanese entertainment industry. So far (3rd episode aired last night), the story is progressing well. I am not fond of the acting. The only seasoned actor in the cast is Kingone Wang and I am annoyed that with his excellent track record, he is always casted as the 2nd male lead. I hope to see the day when Kingone is the lead. The other actors and actresses are young and relatively new to the acting industry - hence the borderline acting. The only thing they did right with this drama is to air it on Friday nights, hence avoiding a direct clash with all the more popular ones on Sunday nights (eg: Extravagant Challenge/Skip Beat). I also especially appreciate that they maintained the korean when the actors are speaking in Korea and the occassional Korean Jung Min's character will spout as his character is that of a Taiwanese-Korean background. Watch this if you are feeling bored and wish to go back to the days of simple love triangle stories involving rich and not so rich ppl with mediocre acting from idols or if you are a fan of Park Jung Min of SS501 and can stand watching him act all cutesy and cool-like. *shivers* All I can say is, watch it with no expectations. I am just watching this as an afterthought to pass the week by. Do join me if you feel as bored as I am....

It looks good but I don't want to start it until there are more episodes posted.

I shouldn't have started until there were more episodes. (I hate waiting sometimes)

But I'm enjoying this one. The story isn't original and the acting isn't great. But the characters are fun. And it's an easy watch ... well so far. I'm sure it'll get frustrating eventually, it always does.

And I love Cake.

While waiting for Friday night to come, a treat for fans of Fondant Gardern - the MV for Park Jung Min's 1st solo album "Not alone". Enjoy!

Thanks for that. Another voice to add to my collection. He's pretty good.

Eh... he's ok. I like the song though, very catchy and energetic. If anything, I thought the song composer did a good job and he's lucky to land himself with such a nice song for his 1st solo album. As for his voice....let's just say there's more to be done and that I am not a big fan of young men with young men's voice.... I like deep, strong male-baritone like voices that has layer of maturity in it. His voice is still very much "young-man-ish" and pretty common in that you can actually find young men in karakoke bars with similar vocal quality. Not unique or a stand out. All I can say is he can sing but he is not the best (or strongest) vocalist.

I am so in love with Kingone Wang after watching him in the first episode. I think his character should get the lead girl. Forget the namby pamby boy from Korea who wears more makeup that the girl and doesn't want to work for a living. Come on, let's be realistic ladies, do you want a man who knows how to work and make a good living or a man-child who only knows how to play and spend money? If you can't make money, then what's going to happen to all the money you have?

Okay I am in love with him. Seriously. I love his character. I am on episode 4 and I could give two flying fruits about our first male lead. He looks too much like the Dead Eye Fish leader from SS501 for me to like them. I'm finding it hard to separate him (sad but true).

I have seen Kingone Wang in other shows and I totally love him. Why does he usually seem to be the second lead? He is so beautiful and he acts so well. Is his beauty holding him back? Or maybe I need a larger selection of shows with him in it.

Can we just dump first lead and let the sexy second have the girl? PLEASE?

Tsk tsk tsk.... you know it does not work that way in drama land. The girls ALWAYS fall for the baddie. Be a good twin and pass me that popcorn! *munch munch munch*

Up to date. Just finished episode six and I can see the you-know-what is going to hit the fan in the next episode. I still love him, even though I know he is going to turn into a heel. Looking forward to the next episode after watching the previews.

HEY! Are you sitting on the Milkduds?

Edit: I forgot to add, I am quite enjoying the soundtrack. Nice.
