A major difference is the Light vs. Lelouch. Lelouch is very obviously effected by his actions where Light avoids his feelings by claiming himself a god.

DN and CG have a lot of things in common but you can easily tell they are completely different by the story and how it is told. CG is more relaxed but full of action where as DN is more serious and dark. If they have similar things in common tell me what anime doesnt? you can usually find something from one anime in another...dont know why thats just how things are.

the main chars are alike difrence is that light goes insane completly so far lelouch still has a bit normality(because of his melodramatic scenes where he feels sorry for his actions while light never felt sorry he belived himself a god and that he was justice)

I like them both 2 but i think code geass is a much better improvement on death note.

I think the first 12 or so episodes of Death Note are untouchable. Unfortunately, it starts to do downhill after that, and especially after when you know who dies. CG's first season was very enjoyable, but the second season falters right until the ending IMO. I rank Death Note higher, but they're both great.

Both great animes, although I like CG more because Lelouch is just more human than Light is (emotionly wise).
