24 year old Male here. I have been researching about Clannad and it is normally a genre I don't watch (Harem) but I have watch Azumanga Daioh and Toradora. LOVE THOSE SHOWS. Didn't mind Fruits Basket either. I saw on ANN's encyclopedia that both Clannad AND Clannad: After Story got ALOT of Masterpiece votes from fans. So without revealing the story to me....is Clannad as great as I have read? Personal opinions are why I am here. Thanks you guys! |

20 year old male here, you'll most likely enjoy the first season... I personally don't like After Story, I stopped watching it (but keep downloading it) after episode 8 or something. I've watched Clannad 2 1/2 times. At least it is not like most other harems, where the male lead doesn't choose a girl till the end; it is kind of obvious who he goes with. It has enough comedy, where its not overboard but enough to have you laugh a couple times an episode. "Did you see that hit?!" "Yes!" "Did you fall in love?" "Yes!" Makes me laugh every time. Nothing like Azumanga Daioh, though, other than that it is a school, slice of life. I would say, "Why would you watch Fruits Basket?" then I think... I watched it myself.

i got to say the clannad is totally different from the clannad after story... Clannad is your typical romance anime boy meets girl boy fall in love with girl... The after story has nothing to do with it... it really sad the emotional stuff his so high... just makes you cry and by the way I'm 22 I wonder "Is it wrong to watch anime at this age????"

31 year old male here and I loved it. Partly because I thought the plot and story development and character development were very very well done. To me it has a lot of drama type things that different people could possibly relate to which in turn gives a lot of chances for you to get a little teary eyed depending. Me I have never realy seen myself as an emotional type but there were a number of times in the show I couldn't help getting a little teary both tears of sadness and tears of happiness for the feel good moments. A couple parts in the series im sad to say I cried more then I thought I would watching a show. I probably felt a little emotionally attached to the show is why because a few things in it I felt I could relate too. |

I know why you would be concerned, but I'm not even sure it's appropriate to put it in the harem category. There are 2 girls who definitely like him, but I've always considered 3 to be the minimum number of girls to make a harem. There are 1 or 2 other girls who "may" like him, but as far as I can remember it's never actually revealed (except through Another World OVA's, but discount those). Aside from that, harems are often moe affairs or sometimes ecchi, that sort of thing and they aren't usually very serious, but Clannad is more of a drama. Sure it's funny, but it's really not fair to compare it to other harems. Also, After Story is definitely not a harem. If you want my opinion, you should watch them, but just remember that After Story is quite a different show, it's considerably less light-hearted later on. |
