L was for me the best character in the series,
tho Light wasn't bad, and deserved to kill that "N" guy *don't know for sure if it was N though,, been a while since i watched this serie*

dont care about light too much, and yea, L definitely should have been the one to stay alive. N sucked and so did mello, even together they are nothing compared to L imo L ftw

Well I agree with you. I was totally on Light's side... [[although if Kira was in the real world I have NO IDEA what my side would be.]] But I was rooting for the prep with the god-complex the whole way... he is just amazing. :K 2nd favourite character FTW!! I didnt cry though. But I was really sad. And gawh, I really felt like diving into my computer screen and giving him a hug when Matsu started shooting him. :K

And now, some debate ?: But, using common sense, I think it was pretty clear Light was doomed to die from square one. I mean, think about it... how could such a series end with " 'HUZZA! I killed Near, now I shall be the ruler of the new world forever! Muahahahaha!!!' THE END." Its not really an ending to begin with. It leaves too many things unfinished... how/when does Light ever die? What about Misa? Is there a 3rd set of L's sucessor(s) waiting to try to catch Kira? And biggest of all, would Kira ever get caught? I mean really, there aint no way the world would stand around watching innocent people die. (as that was Light-o's grand goal, to kill criminals them move on to just immoral people in general, leaving the world with only truly good people... world population drop 99% or what? hah.)

but i totally agree with the fact that it's the best end for deathnote possible .. and i liked every single episode of it
but still, i didn't consider the fact that the ending should be like this.
if there was even a single way to change the ending and for the story to stay as brilliant as it is right now... and keep L alive ..
i would cry out loud, just because i would be happy ^^

simply because he was one of the coolest and strangest characters ever in an anime as far as i know.
he was just badass :]

Yes, L WAS a great character. When I first saw him, as in physically see his whole unveiled body, all I remember thinking is "...WOAH. This anime just got ten times more interesting." :3 Hes too cool lol !

And yeah, the whole MelloNear arc was a big gamble on the author's part, I think. Taking out probably the most beloved character in the series and replacing him with two new strange kids?? I for one was angered at first. But I still agree in saying it was the best ending for Death Note. Sure, I ultimatly wanted Light to prevail over Near (and, in that case, L as well) but like I said in my first post, I dont think it it would make sense. ^_^; Having Near win is the most definite ending, tieing up as many loose ends as possible.

replace Mello and Near for 2 better characters for the ending of the story...
are there better replacements for them,, characteristics, looks?
and maybe a bit of a change in the arc they drop in ? :]
