Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto.

The fights are cool, the story compelling, the characters are all pretty well designed, and the art is also very good.

as mreaper said there are a lot of threads like this in general anime section.

but still i wud put some of my recommendation here:

gungrave (highly recommended)

katekyoshi hitman reborn ( starts off with some insignificant yet funny episodes, gets better after episode 20. its very good)

code geass (kind of like death note. though it has mecha in it. but if u liked death note u wud love this one)

D.grayman ( great story line and fight)

hajime no ippo or eyeshield 21 ( if u like sports anime )

Crome Shelled Regions
something like bleach ,is more emotional but is pretty good.

Is interesting to see how the main characters evolve .And the fights are pretty good ,to.

If ya have not seen cowboy bebop, its a must watch, every anime fan i know loved it. trigun is always fun. gilgamesh is dark and kinda creepy and keeps ya guessing. Outlaw star is a classic. But the movie Akira is the shit which put more adult anime on the map to the world. one of the best out there ever. The music in that is enough to make it epic as hell.

You should change for a while in what to watch open yourself to new anime not kwon to much. That what I did and found out that some of the anime not well know may be in your preferance. Watch anime that are pieces of life i think that the theme for the animes. Like Myself,yourself. So don't be a follower of the well know anime break from the pack and look out.
