Ichigo beat Kenpachi because Ichigo was underestimated.You have to remember that Ichigo came out of no were.As far as Kenpachi knew Ichigo was a run of the mill enemy,nothing he had'nt seen in the past.Ichigo had the element of surprise.

Ichigo beat Kenny because of his death-counter limit break.
