Just hard to chose though.

But heyy...I think Kira is the smartest because he didn't give up on everything and always tricking people into something new and dumb. And always knew what L plans were and knew how to break them down.

As much as I want to say Light, I'm going with L. Here's the deal, L had NOTHING to go off of at the start of the case. Even so, he still somehow managed to pinpoint Light as a suspect, and was incredibly close at winning. Light was working with the advantage from the get go just by being Kira.
