At the end of what the Soul Society records as "The War of Pure Souls", the thirteen court guard squads were left with few remaining members. Due to a need for new shinigami, the Central 46 authorized the recruitment of spiritually talented souls from the Rukongai. This order was greeted by the greatest influx of student shinigami that the Soul Society had ever seen, but these students had large shoes to fill and little time to adjust to their new lives. With the absence of the five recently deceased captains, the chain of command was under great stress, and many activities were going on under the radar. Many roles needed to be filled, and there was little time before the Soul Society would begin to crumble. Amidst this torrent of confusion, a darker figure was pulling the strings, patiently waiting for the opportunity to turn what was left of the Soul Society upside down.

Character personality: Yusei has several paranoid tendencies. He is always checking his surroundings to make sure he isn't being watched, and prefers dark places where he cannot be seen by others. Unless Yusei has met someone, and gotten to know them, he will not trust them, and depending on his mood, will be fearful of them. Yusei is relentless in combat, and fights to kill, to rid himself of his fear of retaliation. Yusei's fears often manifest themselves in violent outbursts and irrational arguments, even towards those he cares for. This makes it difficult for others to get close to him.

Character history: Yusei was held captive from birth, and tortured on a daily basis. His life was riddled with pain and suffering. The only time he found refuge was in the darkness. The empty room in which he was kept was only illuminated during torture sessions.

After his death at the young age of 24, by his own hands, Yusei found himself a citizen of Rukongai. Living on the streets in poverty, he became a thief and a murderer just to survive. His crimes went unnoticed, until a Shinigami Captain felt his intense spiritual pressure flare as he took the life of a local street boss. Yusei was drafted into the Shinigami Academy, where he now resides.

Character age: 89
Character appearance:

Character personality: Dread is a heavy drinker and generally antisocial. He is hard to communicate with, but a great friend once you have won him over. Dread is well known in Rukongai for his street smarts, which have kept him out of trouble with the shinigami so far. In combat, Dread is incredibly unpredictable, due to animalistic tendencies that he picked up from his years of working the streets.
Character history: Dread was born into a poor family in Rukongai and spent the early years of his life as a small time thief. It wasn't a great job, but the pay was good and Dread slowly grew to love it. As he grew older, he moved into better circles and helped with a lot of shady activities in the dark alleyways of Rukongai, but somehow managed to avoid trouble with the shinigami.

When the Soul Society opened up the academy to all of the spiritually gifted, Dread didn't even think twice about leaving his old life to join the ranks of the shinigami. Although, he left much behind, Dread has so much more to gain with the Soul Society than without them. He now hopes to wipe away his past by moving towards an even better future.

Character personality: He's usually friendly and outgoing, but easily gets annoyed and angered by things he dislikes, which include things from giving up to easily to simple things like him being ignored. Hes hard working, sarcastic at times, and decisive in making quick decisions and sticking too them. Hes also stubborn to his beliefs and its almost an impossible task to change his mind once its set.

Character history: He grew u in a above average quality area of rogunkai, not wealthy, but far from poverty, he lived alone with his grandpa, whom taught him to be friendly and respectful, and also taught him the way of the sword to defend himself if need be. His Grandfather was once a lowly ranked seated officer among the gotei 13, who retired 10 years before hell began to take place in soul society to take after Tatsumi. Nothing is known of Tatsumis history before he was found, though he often has nightmares which he thinks are distant and short memories of some drastic events.

His grandfather got sick, so in hopes to earn money to get him well he started entering tournaments to earn money, where he was scouted by soul society. He accepted to join the academy on the terms his grandfather would be treated, and is now getting ready to begin his new life.

Character personality: An irresponsible person, Tylor isn't the most motivated person when it comes to things he doesn't like. Unfortunately, there are only a few things that he does like. Women and Cake. He will go crazy over cake, it's a major weakness for him. He constantly flirts with women whenever possible. When not going crazy over something, he really doesn't do much. He is often seen just lounging around or sleeping. He generally tries to avoid any battles unless it's necessary. Which in his case is to impress a woman or if someone messed with his cake.

Character history: In life, Tylor's life wasn't anything special. His childhood was normal, he had 2 parents who worked most of the time and brothers who constantly pestered him and strained his patience. During his teenage years, he spent a lot of the time in the kitchen, making cakes to take to school and eat on the rooftops. The cakes were usually well made and attracted plenty of girls who wanted to look at them and taste them. All the attention from the girls turned him into the flirt he is today. As an adult, he owned a cake shop. He spent all his time there, baking cakes, decorating them and flirting. Of course, being seen as just a flirting chef, there were plenty of thugs trying to rob him. He usually fought them off using whatever kitchen utensils he had available. That is until one day, where he was shot point blank by a gang member.

Thus leading to Tylor's life in the Soul Society. He also owned a cake shop in soul Society, where he baked for the many citizens of the area. And flirted with all the women he saw. His life there wasn't unlike the one he lived in the human world. One day, as he was baking cakes, he heard a ringing at the front door. He heard the clattering of his register and the door slamming. Knowing it was a thief, he grabbed a knife and a rolling pin from a drawer and ran after the thief. Chasing the thief, he threw the knife, piercing the man in the leg and causing him to fall over. Standing over the fallen man's body, he smashes the rolling pin over the thief's head and knocks him out. As he ties up the thief, a shinigami walks up and comments on how well he took out the thief. He offers Tylor the chance to join the Gotei 13 and promises him the chance to make all the cake he wants. Tylor accepts and heads to the Academy dreaming of the future.

Character personality: Jeremiah is an easygoing person. He seems like a stereotypical normal human teenager. He loves making jokes and loves communicating with different type of people. Although some times he does not take a situation seriously, if his friends need assistance he will always be there.

Character history: Jeremiah was born into an evil family. His family was killed by an unknown murderer. Jeremiah was a lonely and angry child but then he was raised by his uncle (who was not evil) who was easygoing himself. Jeremiah soon became a much more sociable person. One day his uncle got murdered as well and since then Jeremiah had taught himself how to fight.

He started fighting many in the town just to become stronger. After many wins, he was encountered by the biggest gang in the town in the next town. He ended up getting ganged up and killed. His second life started in Rukongai. He also fought there, but kept it to a limit. He became more kind during his stay here. After showing his abilities to many people in the Central 46, he was chosen to be in the Shinigami Academy.

Has short, purple hair with a black hairband and purple eyes. A red "third eye" is positioned over her heart, with cords running to her head and wrists. Wears a blue shirt with yellow heart buttons and pink collar, a pink skirt with faint flowery pattern and pink slippers.

Character Personality:
In one word: Perceptive.
A person who looks at the true heart of things. She does not overcomplicate things, but instead makes it simple. Even if it's impossible to say simply, she will understand it simply. She does not care about words, but rather the meaning behind them. The only exceptions are living things. She just simply understands that the thoughts and feelings behind them are much too complicated to be simple. Thanks to this view, she is a great judge of character, and is adept at reading into the depths of people's thoughts and feelings. She does not define them, thus they are more easily understood to her. When a person is showing great greif, she does not identify it as sad. Instead, she just understands. As said before, words are hollow, it's the meaning behind them that she looks for.

Satori is solemn, but expresses her emotions freely, unless otherwise would be unwisely harmful, (Like saying 'I don't like you' to the Captain Commander.) Despite herself, she likes to make near-pointless conversation, not only for the reason that it will allow her to understand the other person better. Animals tend to enjoy her company, due to her perception of them and her open personality. She has absolutely no social awkwardness, and usually does what she thinks should be done. Satori does not care if she is first in line for lunch or last, beyond the time difference in getting her food. She does not mind correcting people, or holding her tongue when told so.

Her main interest is understanding things and how they work and come to be. Example: Rather than a number-cruncher, she likes how the theories in math work and create the system.
She never beleives she can completely understand living things, which always gives her interest. When she's out of immeadiate new things to try to perceive, she tries to come up with new things, as a way to understand herself more. Odd habits include a half smile, as well as closing an eye while thinking about something.

Satori Komeiji was born in the Balkans (Think Translvanyia area) to Yvette and Kriskoff. Seven years before that, there was a son, Evaan, and two after there came a daughter, Marcella. The family was to be considered outcast. To the world, they were gypsies. Wanderers with no home, those seeing them thinking that they deserve none. Even in Gypsy circles, they were different. The parents had picked up parts of Buddhism from a traveler that came from the far south east. The two then passed it on to their children, thus Satori's name, which means "Enlightenment." Scrounging a living, they did whatever they had to to get by. Yvette was a seamstress, Kriskoff an inventor. Evaan was a muscle man, and Marcella learned how to cook and heal with herbs. Satori took the mantle of Fortune Telling.

When Satori was newly 12, the family travelled to a city of the Ottoman Empire, where many troupes of Gypsies were gathered to perform for the court and ruler of the city. Their turn came on the dawn of a new day.

Yvette gave the aging king a tapestry of two great mythical beasts fighting and a person on a throne above them, watching. The cloth quality was low, the dye was cheap, yet the design was excellent and the king graciously accepted it.

Kriskoff brought a device that amplified the voice, and denied to use it. The reason, he stated, was that his voice should not be louder than the voice of the Ruler. The Ruler's adminstator, happy of his humbleness, took the device as a gift and said that he would gladly use it to make the ruler's voice heard, even though he is aging and his throat is weak.

Evaan demonstarted how he could hold himself in the air with just five fingers. He also showed them that he could hold a boulder above his head while only standing on his toes. Those that were expecting a normal show of muscle were suprised by the finesse of the balance.

Marcella cooked a soup that was made with only plants and water, warmed by fire. She told them that it would eas worries of the mind. The ruler's eldest son volunteered to taste it, and he smiled since it was decent. He passed the bowl to the youngest son, who also drank and smiled while everyone else looked at the mystic with odd colored hair who walked and kneeled before the leader of the city.

Satori gave the ruler something he wanted to hear. She told of how, due to a mistake of a close person, he himself would make a mistake. However, it would be able to be set right by his power. The crowd was silent at first for the audacity that the ruler might make a mistake, but when the meaning sunk in they clapped and told the King that he was a powerful man indeed if he could overcome his mistakes, (Which were of course at the fault of the other person.)

When morning came, the eldest son of the ruler died by poision. Everyone said that it must of been the Gypsy girl who gave him that strange brew. They said that the family had to be punished, killed, for killing the successor. The kind, saddened but not the violent type, went with their demands. He sent a troop of soldiers to execute gypsies on the spot. A hectic minute or two passed before the youngest son approached. He nervously stated that he also drank the soup. When the greif of the crowd wailed out loudly, he said that he actually felt fine. The crowd, knowing that the only other food the eldest ate was at dinner, put it off as luck that the youngest was alive. They wouldn't say that someone inside did it. That she was a witch and an inept one at that. The old ruler, however, remembered the prophecy of the family. He had doubts at first, but then he decided. He corrected the opinion of the mass and demanded that they give him a ride to the gypsy's location and at once. Though concerned, they brought him there.

The only one left was the girl who had led him there. The ruler was disgusted at how the soldiers did what soldiers did. The mother was bound and gagged with her own fabric, her corpse still warm. The father was impaled all over with his own gadgets, with countless wounds. His lifeless eyes were in the back of his head, saying that he died slowly. The son of the gypsies was hanging from the caravan by his feet, his throat slit and his fingers touching the floor in a horrible mock immitation of his act. The yongest sister was impaled to a broken piece of the caravan by swords. Her body was still smoldering, but her pained screams have long since died out.

The survivor was tied to a box, a vantage point where she could see all the corpses. Her eyes were pinned open with needles. The blood mingled with the tears, making it look like she was crying blood. A soldier was in front of her, holding a knife across both her strained blood-red eyes. He was making a smart ass remark how she didn't see this coming when he realized the City's Ruler had approached. Suprised, the soldier saluted and dropped the knife.

The king used his power to set things right. He made Satori his personal seer. His life lasted two years more. Hers ended with it, the ruler's successor was mad, ignorant, and hated her. 'He beleived with his heart that Marcella had killed his older borther' was the phrase he used. So it was funny, when she was in the guillotine. Funny to her. She said it was so, while looking at the second eldest son and half-smiling, her left eye closed.

"It's funny. I understand why you did it. I feel that you don't hate me. That you don't even hate my already dead younger sister. I understand why you poisioned your older brother and your father. I understand it so well, it's fun-"

The sentence was cut off, just as her head was. That ruler didn't last long on the throne. He ended up being buried with gypsies, while the young gypsy girl was laid to rest with the rest of the ruler's family.

Her soul wandered. Satori was scared. She thought she had finally understood a person. But with her death, many new things appeared. Too many at once. She didn't understand why there was a plug in her heart that had a chain. She didn't know what the monsters were that she so desparately ran away from. She didn't understand why she was alive. So Satori bid her time and grew to perceive things as they were. She noticed that a madness began to creep over her. The chain was almost gone. And then a new figure appeared, one in black robes. A reaper of death, a Shinigami. She didn't like him and she said so. She knew he would her to a place with even more new things. The shinigami told her to shut up and bashed her on the head with the hilt of his sword.

Satori awoke in a new world. One that was as fruitful as her time as a gypsy. She was always hungry, she was constantly cold. Even worse, there was no family to cheer her heart. People offered, but she could not accept. Because she understood she could not replace those that they have lost. She was the same.

Satori spent many years in Rukongai, perceiving, learning, and understanding. She then saw the same Shinigami. This time she told him that she liked him. That he created many interesting things for her to understand. He said that he didn't create them, they were already there. He told her to follow him to Soul Society.

Character personality: Barry is a timid, but very knowledgeable boy who spends most of his free time enjoying the sights around him. He rarely focuses his attention on what's important and may cause people to become irritated very easily because of it. He has an easy to like vibe that emits from him and enjoys the company of friends and enjoyable people. He has powerful urges to protect the ones he cares about and will do almost anything to make sure they are safe, but understands his own level of strength.

Character history: Barry was born in the United States into a wealthy well known family. During his fifteenth birthday, an unexpected visitor showed up and shot him dead. His soul was somehow bound to his home where he stayed for many years. One day, a shinigami appeared where Barry was and was about to send to the afterlife, when suddenly a hollow appeared and went straight for Barry. The shinigami tried to defend Barry against the hollow, but was soon defeated shortly after. When the hollow went in to devour Barry's soul, suddenly, another shinigami appeared and quickly defeated the hollow. Barry only saw the shinigami for a split second and noticed that he had a white haori over his black clothes. The next moment showed that Barry had already crossed over.

He appeared in Rukon district 1 where he soon learned about the shinigami after asking many of the people in the area. However, even after asking many people, he had no clue as to how he would be able to get to meet them, until one day, when a group of shinigami appeared in the district for unknown reasons. Finding an opportunity to talk to them, he convinced them to allow him to take the entrance exams so that he would be able to join the academy.
