@renshi: I bet level 5 is going to be the "final" or "complete" version of Akuma. I don't recall anything saying akuma have more than (possibly) two souls themselves, though. Don't they just "level up" (a term I think is used to mislead the Black Order) when the called-back soul has been so corrupted as to have enabled the killing of increasingly massive numbers of people? The soul of the host body is gone, so it's just the soul of the person who was called back + the new identity of the akuma itself, which may or may not be a new "soul." In any case the souls that are called back, if what Allen has seen is any indication, are certainly increasingly tortured with each level up. I think whatever the earl is trying to do involves something to do with "breaking" the trapped souls-- not destroying them, but "ruining" them somehow in order to produce some sort of effect.I don't think the 14th literally came out of nowhere. I think only the talk about his existence came out of nowhere. It would make little sense for a Noah to suddenly randomly appear after 7000 years. I mean I suppose he could have stayed "sleeping" or whatever, but I think it makes more sense that he just wasn't talked about. Lvellie called the 14th "a crevasse" created by the holy war. How a person can be a crevasse, I don't know, but whatever. My theory is that Neah and Mana were both the 14th Noah. I can't remember if anything was said about their age right now-- I'll have to go back and check but I suspect maybe they were fraternal twins. Incidentally I had completely forgotten but recently came across it again: When Road and Tyki were waiting for Allen's party to show up in the ark, she mentioned to him that the Earl is lenient with them and doesn't want to be hurt because the Noah are supposed to become his "sacrificial lambs" for god. If anyone has a clue what that means, I'd love to know.Let us know what you think.

But I think you are right he is trying to create something from lvling them up at the same time maybe Ryubosj might be right and a lvl 5 could be how to create a new noah that is is probably how nea came into existence idk that would be cool if that was it.

As I recall from watching that part in the anime, and then reading that arc after I finished it, what Allen said was that he had never seen a soul in that kind of horrid state before. And in the manga, you weren't shown what it was that Allen saw really. Just a little bit of of the dark haze rising from the Lvl 4's shoulders. Check it out HERE (starting there + over the next few pages). As I understand it, in DGM, persons killed by akuma still have their souls go to the "afterlife." They can be called back just like the soul used to make the akuma in question. The "giant akuma" from the Edo arc are a special case. They were composed of multiple Level 3s that the Earl somehow fused together.

I was reading that in wikia how else does a lvl 3 become 4 if you think about it it was born from a giant akuma which then had hundreds of lvl 3 inside of it. Other wise one soul isn't has fun compare to thousands lol :P

Like ryu said, the anime isn't the best source. I'll add to that that when wikia doesn't have references, you should check the manga for yourself (which I conveniently linked above). Where were you reading that in wikia? The section of the akuma article for Level 4 (which has no references anyway) says the same thing as me. Even in the anime, I'm pretty sure the dying words of the person pointing upward were translated "it levelled up," not "they merged," or "they merged and levelled up," or even "they levelled up." Think about it. Why would there be only one soul all the way up to level 3 (check the Asian branch invasion for the soul trapped in a Level 3 that asked Allen to "love" him), and then suddenly require multiple souls for level 4? If the giant akuma were formed from multiple level 3s, then why isn't the level 4 (which you described as being made in a similar way) also a "giant akuma?" Makes more sense to me that one soul is being increasingly tortured with each level up, all the way to 4.

Was reading it here. Akuma I used to think it was only 1 soul all the way to lvl 3 but when I saw the giant akuma gave birth to the lvl four and sour the masses of soul in the anime I was grown to believe to have more, that is why I google searched it to see how much souls an akuma would have. Also that link you gave was to manga reader I don't like manga reader too many broken pages. I know their broken or I just have bad luck trying 3 different computers all not working the same time. So I used mangahere better then fox as well the ads just get in the way at times.

Do you recall any times Allen saw two distinct souls in one single akuma? (Remember, Eliade was Lvl 2, and the one at the Asian Branch was Lvl 3, and both only had one soul.) Quote:
2. Even in the anime-only bit showing the "soul" (AKA "filler"), it is only *one* soul that has been tortured/mutilated into that sickening state (presumably corrupted by being forced to murder so many people). Quote:
• Ch 145: "It evolved" (and if you go back to the beginning, you can see the sequence of the Lvl 4 hatching from its bizarrely-shaped shell) • Ch 146: Allen first sees its soul. (continue over next few pages)
