well sex pistols is straight up punk, and so is dead Kennedy's but when the punk bands left the local scenes,(late 70's) bands like minor threat, black flag, circle jerks, gorilla biscuits came in and the scenes became angry and more violent (mostly the east coast) so 1980-1986 are considered the hardcore years of punk. I always say I listen to hardcore and some people think it's like metal but im talking about in the sub genre of punk.

Hardcore still exists, I've been to my fair share of hardcore shows. Caustic Christ, Municipal Waste, Annihilation Time, Disfear, Leftover Crack, WitchHunt, etc... I prefer crust... (Which half those bands are) But still, I prefer Black Metal over anything. (Which is probably why I prefer crust).
