Hardsubbing/converting .sub files?

Why is it i haven't seen this thread before... And why is it you didn't just ask me about hardsubbing .sub format subtitles Dark? xD

Hardsubbing .sub subtitles is fairly easy, you just use the hardsubbing method in VirtualDubMod i once taught you, just use the VobSub 2.23 or the normal VobSub filter which i'm pretty sure you have.

keep note that there are not only .sub files
converting .sub files is fairely easy but the problem here is the idx files that can not be converted in any way that I know of...

I don't plan on converting them cause i don't know an effective way to do that, I'm just hardsubbing them directly to the video which should be fairly easy.

Can be a lot of things as many many different programs and software uses them as an index which points into one or more achieves and/or databases, but in this case it's the file which gives the player the timing, location etc. of the subtitles which are in .sub format which is basically just a long series of pictures which include letters that make out the subtitles (Which is the reason they are so difficult for the computer to convert to normal written text without the user writing what letters each picture is and even when doing so it's normal for computer to make mistakes). And fact that you have a .sub file and an .idx file together tells me it's VobSubs your working with as they are the only subtitle format i know which uses both types of files.

Anyway i will admit that i don't recall trying to directly hardsub VobSub files even though i have the means to do so because of all the other encoding jobs i have done here on AC, but i do recall i tried to convert them once (Without very good results) which is where my experience comes from. Converting .sub to example .srt is a painful process because the computer don't recognize the letters in the pictures so you must pretty much write every letter down for it once or more for it to recognize the picture later, and even then it will probably make mistakes with example I / l and so forth.

well then you should know that you need to convert both
the sub only has the text in different languages as Dark told me
so yeah : / Converting .idx I don't know how

I wouldn't want to convert them when he might as well just hardsub them right away, which is what he is trying to do in the end. I don't have any VobSub subs around to try it on sadly, but i would guess the creators of VobSub for VirtualDubMod made the little program intelligent enough to automatically look for .idx file when you point it to the .sub file or the other way around.

yeah I know and it should play with the subs just by opening the avi if the sub files are in the same folder
I wonder if I can hardsub them in VsFilter/textsub
