Default Which should I pick?

I have a bit of spending money, and I'm buying RAM with it, cause yeah. Anyways, I have about 130 bucks to spend on ram (and some extra, for a new m-board). ATM, I have two choices I want, but can't make the decision, 8 gigs of DDR2 or 4 Gigs of DDR3. Meh.

Newegg.com - GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Quad Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
Newegg.com - Crucial Ballistix 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

ddr2 imo 2x the ram for a little extra heat, plus the ddr2 is cheaper. DDR3 just doesnt offer enough yet, most experts say its only about a 2%-5% increase in performance. Thats just not enough to loose 4gig of ram imo

A couple of points...

Are you using either XP 64-bit or Vista 64-bit? If you are not, then there is no reason to get above 4GB or RAM.

If you are getting a new motherboard, make sure the motherboard supports the type of RAM (and everything else in your computer) and is expandable to 8GB (which shouldn't be an issue now a days).

I should suggest looking around and seeing if you could get cheaper, like buy four separate 2GB sticks instead of a package of four... It could save you a few bucks.

Meh, always have been an AMD person, so yeah, I'm running XPx64. (All versions of Vista are 64 bit, btw :P )

I was also a moron and spent 200 bucks on my mboard, so that it could support 16 gigs, if I so desired.

Meh, well, I mean the 4 gigs I have now is ok, so meh, but still, meh.

I kinda wanna buy a server motherboard so i can just say "I can use 32 Gigs of ram, and two CPUs. But then i'd have to switch to intel, so meh D:

Nice to see an AMD supporter... You're not a computer hacker, are you?

*As I use my Intel laptop*

I guess I'll eventually get a new computer.

"To support 64-bit platforms such as Intel Xeon, Intel Core 2, AMD Opteron and AMD Athlon 64, Microsoft released 64-bit versions of every edition of Windows Vista except for the Starter edition. " You need the 64-bit editions to support higher than 4 GB of RAM... But you wouldn't have that problem.

Heh, I used to be an intel supporter, till I started building computers, and looked at a price chart. -_-

Anyways, I saw a nice M-Board I kinda want, granted it's for a server. Support for four quad-core Opterons, 16 ram slots, with a max ram cap of 64 gigs, 6 sata controlers, and only room for one PCIe x16 slot.....

D: I need money.

Edit: And which version of Vista is "Starter edition", cause if it's home, I think my laptop might be wasting an Athlon 64 -_-

Are you looking for a gaming computer though? Because the one PCIe slot kind of killed that mother board. If you are not using it for gaming though that sounds like a pretty legit M-Board. How much though?

And weee another AMD user!
I'm going to sell my computer to a museum before I build my new one lol. This baby has lasted me a good 6-7 years.

Well, no, it would be a computer to say "I have 4 times the CPUs you have, and more Ram then you might have in HDD space, if your comp is old".

That said, it has dual serial ports, so who cares about PCI?

It was in the range of $460 US, btw.
