the only corei7 that goes with corei5 750 consumption is corei7 870 they have similar envelope of heat production (i.e. only in idle) so don't you want to have a nice low power consumption under idle operation? that's pretty good for your laptop chipset so nothing will be fried there also not to try your lap LOL if you want a Core i7 so bad just get a desktop (i.e. if you're going to use it to its potential) |

Huh...so even the auto shut down for high temperature might be used frequently if the heat production is too high. I sure need to have good power saving and of course to make a fried laptop is a big damage to my wallet. :P Then the best is just get a whole new CPU but it might cost a lot. |

Phenoms also overclock very well, so for those wanting to squeeze out those extra performance, it is achievable. I have reached 3.6-3.8 Ghz on my Phenom II 940 on a cheap 35$ heatsink. I am lazy though, so I have not bothered to play and tweak around the settings more to achieve higher clocks so I'm sure it's possible to squeeze out higher clocks. That being said, a stock Phenom II 940 is at 3.0 Ghz. Thats a 600-800 Mhz increase with exceptional performance. Phenoms also have the best price/performance right now (mostly), they are extremely cheap compared to Intel's competition. For example the i7 980x, a hexa core CPU with unlocked cores is being sold over 1000$ CAD here. While AMD Phenom x6 1090T when released was only around 320$. Both 6 cores, both have unlocked cores as well. Yes, I realize the Intel CPU is faster, but not 300% faster thats worth the retail price its being sold at.
