Default Is there a way to keep track...

...of what's being said in forums? I visit some busy forums and can't always be online but at the same time I don't want to miss any interesting threads that appear and vanish off the first page while I am absent. Is there a browser extension or something else that allows me to keep track of what's being posted on a webpage with keywords or other such things? Something that alerts me when a certain keyword is mentioned? Thanks!

Nope, seemingly not.

Why not turn rss feeds on?

A lot of forums allow you to subscribe to threads; then you can choose if you wanted an aggregated email every hour, week, etc. or get one for every new post.

You can also search for new posts since last visit.

There are several keywords that I would like to follow on forums that move very quickly. These forums don't have a subscription function and the search function is so poor that it's a joke. I have suggested that they switch to vBulletin numerous times but to no avail. I would like to be alerted if possible. Automate the process. There are at least 10 keywords I would like to follow after all.

Well, what forum software are they using if not vBulletin?

You can do it "easily" with vbscript or other language
1) extract and save the sourcecode
2) search inside
- if no keyword matched, delete the file
- if keyword found, send an email with the file attached (or another alert)
3) repeat those operations X times per minute/hour/day

I believe it's custom forum software. This becomes evident when you consider how glitchy it is and how I am becoming less and less happy with posting there as opposed to a vBulletin forum where things just work.

I'll be honest with you. I am a wannabe techie. I barely have a clue as to what you just said.
