I'm using VLC 2.0.1 on my Pentium 4 3.0Ghz with 1 gig of RAM and the shitty internal Intel graphics card. This system is pretty old, it's a Dell Optiplex 280 with Windows 7 32 bit running on it. The problem I'm having is that all 720p video plays with this subdivided block like grid overlay on the picture. Usually it looks like the video is being projected on a finely knit quilt, but during rapid color and contrast changes I get these weird color flares around the blocks. Problem is I can't just settle for watching everything in lower than 720p because some newer HDTV content is not being encoded any lower than 720p as far as I can tell.... I'm in fact half sure that I didn't have this problem before with 720p videos, it has however come to light now that I'm using 720p content more heavily now. Screenshot Spoiler

Maybe a codec problem, install this pack CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack |

I actually installed that pack just a little while ago... exactly for this reason MPC gives me like 2 identical error dialog boxes that are foreign to me.. Code: CreateDevice failed Error code: 0x8876086A DX9AllocatorPresenter failed D3DERR_NOTAVAILAIBLE Installing the codec pack has in no way affected playback in VLC though The vid/aud sync problem is mainly due to the video playing slowmo and unable to keep up with the audio track

Check if directX is enabled, if you don't have codec conflicts (uninstall all your codec packs, then install only cccp), and if all seems good but videos doesn't work fine, buy a videocard that can decode HD.

but your system is crap, so it can't handle 720p the only thing might work for you using Haali as an output also try MPC by itself clean out of CCCP. to cut it short, you seriously need a new machine, if you have a newer machine and you just want to watch stuff on this old one then I suggest using the new machine to encode videos down to 480p then transfer to old machine to watch. I used to do that for my old lappy |

Sadly this is the only machine I have... I am looking to buy a new one... I even have an entire list of parts I want to build my new system, it's just an issue of funding.... since I'm not financially self reliant as of yet, and convincing my benefactor is a challenge in itself
