If you can, get an I7-2500 or better. The AMD is old, very noisy and weaker than its Intel equivalent. | |

If you really want to save as much money and power, the AMD will do the part. (Even though those new Ivy Bridges do well in the power department) If you'd like... My build from November/January: https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/M...px?ID=15429891 Not sure if you can view... Since it is my account viewing it. I have had no problems running any games on their highest settings or any problems watching 1080p video. (I wish the Antec Three Hundred was on sale when I ordered everything, but it wasn't and the Rosewill one I got works without any issue) You could save a few dollars by not getting the monitor, mouse, sound card (I ended up RMAing it and getting credit back), thermal compound, or CPU fan (i5-2500k came with both).

I agree with kamina. Even if it's a Phenom II X4, it's Intel counterpart can probably perform better. If you want to get Intel, go for Ivy Bridge or newer models with thinner nanometer tech. They're getting close to the efficient power management of ARM-based chips that run a lot of personal computing devices. I would advise against crossfiring (not sure if that's what it's called too, lol) if you don't have a specific reason for it other than it theoretically boosts graphics performance and rendering. It's never that simple, and there's always something in exchange. I wanted to put together a new PC for myself a few months ago. It seems finding a dual socket mobo is harder than I thought. I wanted to stick two i5's or i7's in there, like my old dual socket mobo that ran 2 dual core Xeons. Oh well. Sometime soon, perhaps.

wow thanks everyone your advice is much appreaciated... personally id like to get an intel as well seeing that its been proven to be better in a lot of places, but because of my budget restrains a i7 is a bit out of reach... @kamina: thanks i didn't know that it would make the new graphics card preform as badly as the old one, ill just replace the GTX 560 with a 570. @thammuz: thanks but i can't view it. i know that the amd comes with thermal paste as well as a fan, and i already have a monitor and mouse/keyboard :P case wise can anyone suggest another that is a bit cheaper, if i can save 50$ on the case then i might upgrade the graphics card to a GTX 570 @kage: the intel quad core or just the normal i7? yea i think i wont crossfire and instead just upgrade the graphics card to the better GTX 570...

I really have no idea how much your casing/tower that you plan on getting will cost ... when I built mine ..I got a "blade gaming" it has 3 fans built in ...does an excellent job on cooling things down....and yup go for Intel for your processors .... they have an added benefit many people don't bother saying much about ...they auto-protect themselves by shutting down if they begin to over heat and as for extra storage the newer 1tb hard drives are dropping in price....I put all my anime series separate from my operating systems hard drive ...in case failure of the drive itself....oh and please remember to always back up your personal files...all drives fail in time ...with storage/data dvds/cds you will only loss the amount you put on any given dvd/cd.....this is VERY worth the money to do ....I can say that from experience and for your multi-drive to burn your data and dvds/cds .... don't be fooled by all that super high speed stuff ..... go for some thing that can burn dvds at either x4 to x8 ...way less errors when burning...but does cost you a few extra minits time wise ...but worth it... |

Definitely not the normal i7s. Some high GHz Dual Cores with a kick-ass FSB can match normal i7s. But I'm not too sure which of the newest models are best. I'm just assuming for the most part that the newest line of quad core i7s that use 32nm tech are getting better at power management and performance, coz in tablets and smartphones Intel is sporting Medfield chips which they intend to use to compete against ARM Cortex chips. I'm assuming they can adapt the architecture of the Medfiled for desktops.

I actually can't remember the name on mine....but I do remember it only cost about 75$ including tax it too is "gaming" type of part (has a huge fan right across its lower half)...I went with some thing that can cool itself ...my "desktop" is to be used as a server in the future please mind I am from Canada so there maybe huge differences in pricing ....my whole machine parts and labour only cost me about 850$ and that included 3 hard drives a primary 500gb and two secondary ones at 2tb each
