Default Milk

After moving to San Francisco, the middle-aged New Yorker, Harvey Milk, became a Gay Rights activist and city politician. On his third attempt, he was elected to San Francisco's Board of Supervisors in 1977, making him the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in the USA. The following year, both he and the city's mayor, George Moscone, were shot to death by former city supervisor, Dan White, who blamed his former colleagues for denying White's attempt to rescind his resignation from the board.

Mr. Milk had been the subject of several books and the Academy Award-winning documentary feature, The Times of Harvey Milk (1984); but Milk (2008) is the first fictional feature to explore private aspects of the man's personal life and career.

As controversial as the topic of Homosexuality is, I highly reccommend this movie. Though entirely heart-rentching at times, due to the discrimination Mr. Milk had to endure, it beautifully presented the injustices that homosexuals are forced to deal with daily, while also capturing the biography of a great man with a dream of equality.
Sean Penn is amazing as usual and literally embodies Mr. Milk. Other great actors include uber hotties; Emile Hirsch and James Franco as well as Canadian actress Alison Pill, making her comeback to the bigscreen.
This movie really made me think about current issues regarding homosexuality that are so prevalent in society, so if you are open-minded you should check it out.

I've read somewhere that Sean Penn is brilliant in this movie. Well he is one of my favorite actors, I have to admit it. The homosexuality matter is a really serious one and I'm glad they made a movie like this that is also a true story. Thank you for sharing.

*By the way, Dark do you remember we were talking about people who are not so handsome but are good actors and stars? Add Sean Penn in my list*
