Spidey had webs from his hands in the comics sometimes, too. After his encounter with the queen, and I remember him getting a big old boost in "the other" storyline, too.

Spider-Man 2 was just... Eh.

The Other storyline was to give Spidey organic webs like the movie, but then with the whole reset of the whole Spidey timeline made him lose all his new abilities and MJ.

I think his encounter with the Queen was before The Other storyline, too.
So they must've removed his power up before then, as well.
Not that I followed the countless series it had running.
