How I see it is that we're gradually declining in cognitive-related competition. We are really huge on sports and making it farther than all the nation. I agree, I live in Japan my whole life almost, before coming to US, I can honestly say both country has its share dumb and ignorant people, this generation of kids are much more easy going in my opinion, which is not a bad thing, I just hope that people are smarter, not academically but, more of well-rounded and accepting, towards others, (IDK if that made any sense )

Like I've said before, retarded things don't just happen in the US. I've encountered and spoken to plenty of ignorant people from other countries who, although they seemed academically smart, common sense-wise they were sorely lacking.

Improbable. The oldest recipe ever found was for beer. Alcohol has been around for thousands of years. Its actually intrinsically linked with human survival/colonization.

Today's drugs have been around since the 60s, and the last 50 years have made some serious progress in all fields of science.

I'm far too young to say this but...I think its that darned MTV's fault. Last time I intentionally watched that channel it was cause I saw a clip show, no idea its name, similar to Tosh.0. A show about making fun of youtube videos. Except the first video was of some kid who made a "gun vest" by taking a hoodie, some wire, a battery, and connecting it to a blasting cap with a bullet. Then firing it, while wearing the hoodie, to predictable results. I was simply stunned. No, no I wasn't. I was horrified and aghast and just so mad. Watching a real kid really shoot himself in the chest on cable TV as comedy just....idk I thought I witnessed the end of humanity.

I'm pro guns and in general think its funny to watch someone hurt themselves doing something stupid. But watching that, and the kid's kinda slow reaction as he discovers his invention literally backfired was just stunning. I felt like I had watched a slow execution video and people thought it was freakin hilarious. I don't think I've ever been so mad after watching something before or since.

While that kid's gun vest was an outright stupid idea, and it really bothered me that people thought it was funny, what just blew my mind was that the presumed adults who run that show, the adults that run that network, and the adults that run the FCC all thought that was okay to show on TV.
