| he really was one of the best and the reviews are still valid and yeah anime fans have a bad rep anyway (at least around where I live) of being "weird" I certainly don't want people to think I'm crazy because of him

Granted, we have to be careful what we put in our minds but this is just another example of how no one wants to put the blame where it belongs. No one wants to have anyone take responsibility for their actions. The guy had problems and he decided, on his own, to kill his family. It is the depravity of humankind.

"KHOU is reporting that Sesler told investigators that he kiled his family because he was planning a Columbine-type school shooting and did not want them to have to face it." - houstonpress blog It's a terrible event, but I don't think it's that connected with anime. While some anime specializes in epic violence and gore, most of the mainstream stuff is all about friendship and heroism in the face of unbeatable odds. Or falling in love/ getting laid. I have no idea why this guy did these things, but I feel sorry that there was no one there to help him, that he didn't seek support from people who watched his blog or even on a forum like this. Or even from the bronies. When life pisses you off and makes you crazy, come online, vent and then watch some GinTama, or whatever floats your boat, go troll a message board and earn the righteous fury of some mods - don't lose yourself. |

We learn good values in the animes we watched too like not giving up, fighting for what's right and strengthening the value of life and friendship. Some people don't understand that because they have different perception about animes : O

But to discuss it futher, its an example where correlation does not imply causation. Not only did he watch anime, but he was also on FB (bookface, etc) - there are arguments out there that social networking causes isolation and depression. But there have been studies that show the exact opposite. Basically it states that people who lead an active social life online are more likely to have active social relationships in real life. I'm a fan of the "darker/violent" anime and manga, I'm a big fan of horror in general, and I occasionally listen to metal, but for some reason I really dislike guns. They scare me. I also watch a lot of magical anime and am about as sparkely as a rock (not quartz; which can be shiny, I mean granite). Basically it's hard to draw an image of people based solely on one thing. In another article (that also doesn't mention anime) it is implied that the authorities (Sheriff's Department, FBI) were also looking for his friends who may have known about his mass-shooting plot. Isolation =/= friends who you talk too. | |
