I heard from others about Bakemonogatari being ‘boring’ or ‘too filled with talking’ and at first had my doubts about watching it. But somehow it seemed to keep calling out to me to watch it…and guess what? I’m so glad that I listened. Where this anime shines is in it’s delivery of the story, which really develops into romance for the 2 main characters, and the dialogue and even dark humor (and many funny innuendos) throughout the series. So you heard me say ‘romance’ and I’m sure you’re probably rolling your eyes, but I must say for someone who doesn’t always get into things like this it’s the series flawless execution of nonchalantly throwing in the love element that makes this series cool—never does it feel forced. Another thing that I loved is the unique artistic style, rich colors, and overall storytelling of Bakemonogatari. All of these blend together to create a storyline that actually has an underlying sense of realism (something found rather far and in-between in most anime today anyway). My only caveat about the series is how I so wished it lasted longer so that even more time could be given to look back at certain aspects of the main character’s (Araragi) life. Other than that it was absolutely great.

Let me be the first to put this out there, if all you’re about (as an anime fan/viewer) is crazy, happy, action-action time…then, well look elsewhere. Yes, it has some action, but not that much. If you want something that is sharp, witty, dark, and yet funny (in a mature way) really give this a try..
