For someone who hasn’t read the manga, I’m probably shamelessly breaking some laws by writing this review.
This story follows Oz Bezarius, heir to the house of Bezarius, where during his coming-of-age ceremony some seriously insane cross-dimensional, time-stopping things happen and monsters start popping up everywhere and Oz is thrown into this freaky dimension called the Abyss. He manages to escape by making a contract with a monster (called "Chains") named Alice and escapes back into his world.
Afterwards, Oz is thrown into this huge conspiracy involving the Abyss an organization that studies the Abyss called Pandora, and a bloody event that occurred 100 years ago that seems to tie all the events together.
Now, being a big mystery/conspiracy fan, I really liked this series. Honestly, people, I sacrificed study time during my exam just to finish more episodes. THE SACRIFICE. The plot thickens quite nicely throughout, and makes you want to watch the next one asap. At least, that’s what I’m writing as my excuse for my failing mark in Fluid Mechanics. The big problem I have is the ending.
I’m not going to SPOIL anything, because I CAN’T. The ending leaves as much questions as there were in the beginning, and maybe I’m just stupid, but I don’t have all the points connected. You should have seen my expression at the last episode - my monitor actually flickered in fear. Nothing should leave so many questions behind, like: what exactly is the Abyss? Why does Alice look so human? What exactly happened 100 years ago? And why does Oz’s ancestor look SO DAMN HOT?
As long as there is a sequel or a continuation, I’m not going to complain too much. The animation, voice acting, and music are all extremely well done, and they have a couple memorable characters (like Break and Emily). The story takes some symbolism and character traits from the classic "Alice in Wonderland", actually making it more interesting by throwing something familiar in.
In all, definitely recommended, but help me furiously pray for a continuation.
P.S. Look up the song "everytime you kiss me" from the OST of this series; definitely a cute song!.
