During his travels, he meets an immensely wealthy nobleman named The Count of Monte Cristo. Living in luxurious hotels, surrounded by beautiful women and strong bodyguards, the charming but enigmatic count fascinates Albert. Albert invites the count to join the high society of Paris. One of the best anime series I have ever seen.

Synopsis:
Gankutsuou is based on the novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas and is one of, if not, the best Western Novel to Japanese Animation you will ever see. Let me start listing some of the good points:
Story: 9 out of 10 stars
Loosely based off the story as I mentioned earlier The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, a famous French Novel written back in the mid 19th century. While not entirely accurate to the Novel, it does a pretty good job, the anime by itself has great Character Development, Story, and plot twists. If you want a deep plot, they are not many anime series to top this one, maybe at most a handful. Some people might tell you this has Yaoi features in the story, but in my opinion doesn’t, do not let that keep you from watching. I don’t want to spoil too much so I will leave it at that. -1 star though for starting slow.
Graphics/Animation: 7 out of 10
Eh this is a hit or miss on this one. The animation is not bad by any means though the different artistic design might get on some people nerves at first (like mine) though you will quickly move away from this in awe at the story. The mixture of 3D with the 2D graphics was especially done well.
Music/Sound: 9 out of 10
The Music and Sound Effects were very epic, the mixture of pseudo techno beats with Classical music was interesting. While most of the music might seem like it doesntstand out very well by itself, the timing/placing of the themes were perfect, from the plot twists, Character introductions, etc…
Overall rating of the series I would give an 9 out of 10. Animation does not really bring the score down enough for me to justify a lower rating. Naruto/Bleach, while popular series, I would rate about a 6. Hajime no Ippo/Code Geass/Death Note would get an 8. In terms of epicness, the only series I would rate equally would be Berserk/Utawarerumono/Ghost in the Shell (Original)/Akira just to name a few..
