Out of the big three SJ animes, One Piece was the last one that I got into. I used to see it once in awhile on cartoon network, but it looked really childish to me. And to be fair, the beginning of this anime is very childish - it almost feels like a different anime at the start from what it is at its current state.
At the beginning, it is very simple, and only gives very small hints at its awesomeness, such as when Shanks saves Luffy from the sea monster with his haki. But from beginning to now, it has always been hilarious. It is definitely an anime that knows how to laugh at itself and others.
On top of that, you have one of the best characters ever produced in Monkey D. Luffy. Never has a protagonist been so stupid, loyal, and likable.
When the anime matures, there is intrigue around every corner, and you get the sense that the whole world is going to be turned upside down - it is a great feeling to experience when watching a piece of entertainment. Naruto and Bleach try to do this, as well, but One Piece is carrying itself the best, so far. Unlike Naruto, the supporting cast always plays an important role. And unlike Bleach, the progression of the story is smooth and free of any anger towards the writers.
One Piece is definitely my favorite out of the big three, and hopefully, you’ll be able to appreciate it, as well..
