Description: On a wharf on Tokyo Bay is a small gallery named Gallery Fake. The owner of the gallery, Reiji Fujita (藤田 玲司, Fujita Reiji?), was once a curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He was a learned curator with remarkable memory, keen aesthetic sense, great skill in restoration of paintings and knowledge of many languages, so he was called the "Professor." However, because of trouble in the workplace, Fujita was forced to quit the museum. Now he is an art dealer who sells paintings, authentic and fake alike, at extraordinary prices. His motto is "One without aesthetic sense can't help being cheated out of his money. And by being deceived, one may learn to distinguish real ones from the counterfeit."

This anime is so understated and so good.  The storyline is that a former Japanese curator at the Met in New York was railroaded out of his position and he has used his wealth of knowledge and contacts to open Gallery Fake which is supposedly what it says.  All the art is fake but he makes shady deals and in the process wheels and deals in the art world.  His assistant, a lovely young girl from a tragic background, keeps him centered, or trys to.  Another interest is the female head of a large gallery who thinks he is a crook, which you will have to see for yourself.  Not only are the stories and mysteries good but you learn a lot about art, especially Japanese art.  Fugita is smooth and tough but there is a soft side to him and unlike some others the ending is good and can be understood.
