Baki the Grappler is actually very entertaining show.

The plot itself isnt anything special, Boy wants to become the strongest fighter in the world.. nothing special there, but the story itself is very intresting and Baki himself isnt the typical anime hero.

Baki isn’t the normal 12-14 years old student who has born with a gift of something and he must learn to master it and bla bla, then he meets a girl who loves him, but then she doesnt and then they dont know what they know and because of this, the main character struggles and looses all the time and only when he can protect this and that he can fight, even though he still looses, but then the girl is in danger and the boy gets sudden burst of god-like powers and beats the crap out of evryone and after the fight he is afraid of his powers and…. wel you know the story =)

No, Baki is a extremely strong willed boy ( with ridicilously huge muscles for 13 years old boy) and he has no issues with himself and no self-doubt, Baki is determinated to become the strongest.

So in a way this is a very unique setting in anime world and story follows Baki who struggles to become stronger and stronger through hard training and fighting, he challenges opponents 10 times stronger than himself just to become stronger.

Fight scenes are extremely well made and story has even space for little drama in it, but the comedic relieve is very rare and the show focuses more on the action and the atmosphere of the fighthers world.

Characters themselves arent very intresting, expect for Baki and his father who are very well developet characters and very intresting, but then again this show worships Baki and his father Yojiro and focuces on them, and the relationship between these two ( wich is not the happy one)

Good things about the anime:

Yojiro( the strongest man in the world, who killed polar bear with one punch)

Baki ( main character who isnt weak and whiny crybaby)

Fight scenes( seriously these are awesome)

Music ( it’s pretty awesome at times)

Bad things about the anime:

Other characters ( they only serve as opponents to make Baki stronger, other than that, they are just empty shells without real soul)

Story has no twists, it’s pretty straightforward

If you like Hajime no Ippo, then you probably like this one too, only real diffirence is that Baki has much stronger determination and confidence on his own strenght, than Ippo.

For it’s solid perfomance, I give this show above average 6/10
