It’s a couple episodes in right now, but the most obvious and critical weakness for this series appears to be originality. High schooler gets sucked into war, transfer student, mecha and totalitarian government would be the ones to make note of. And with the settings, it’s no wonder why people are calling it the next Code Geass.
On the upside however, these same settings that lack originality are also a setup for an epic adventure. Produced by Production I.G. the animations are beautiful and the sequencing is as well. So much in fact that I was completely sucked in the first 5 minutes with no chance of escaping; the opening scene is marvelous. The music is just as stunning, with many inserts to fill in the heroine’s songs.
As I’ve said before, my biggest concern right now is the originality; I think that is this anime’s final deciding factor whether or not it enters the anime world’s hall of fame. Regardless, it’s very likely to be the most popular of the season.
