The grenade trick would've only worked once. True, the fire wouldn't happen until after the explosion, but once it did...the Daedalus would react and snuff it out looooong before the fire could get anywhere remotely big enough to even burn up ONE full grown Daedalus. The most you'd do is blow up a few babies, or damage a full grown one. Then you'd have to retreat until they calmed down and return to fire off another grenade. There's only one way I see this working. Massive aerial bombardment at the expense of your nation's entire carbon credit rating and economy. Not. So, that leaves...supernatural intervention. It's obvious by the plot that man's attempt a building Shangri-La has failed, because his same failings that screwed up the Metal Age world is screwing up the Carbon Age one. Greed, selfish ambition, govt. oppression/corruption, lies, control and manipulation of religion, and now GMO. (Genetical Modified Organisms) I'm rooting for the Moon Princess, Kumiko, and Kusanagi.
